The boy was identified as C Karthik from Melapudhumangalam village.

According to doctors, Karthik was down with fever for the past few days, for which he was admitted to a private hospital in Thuraiyur.

He was then referred to the tertiary care centre of MGMGH a couple of days ago.

Dr A Subramani, deputy director health

services

(DDHS), visited him and inquired about his health condition on Thursday, sources said.

Sources said that the blood test in the private hospital showed he had dengue.

However, the doctors denied it saying it was the fever that caused his death.

“The boy was critical on Thursday. He was admitted for fever for evaluation. It was not confirmed whether he was down with dengue,” said a senior doctor. The doctors took his blood sample for dengue testing.

Dean of MGMGH, Dr K Vanithamani also said that she was also waiting for the blood test from the lab to confirm if he had dengue.
