258 students clear NMMS exam in Trichy dist
Trichy: As many as 258 students have cleared the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination for the academic year 2025-26 even as the district slipped to 11th position in the state as compared to 9th last year. In 2024-25, 293 students cleared the exam in the district. The NMMS examination is conducted every year by the central govt to support students from economically weaker sections in continuing their secondary education. Students studying in Class VIII in govt and aided schools can write the exams. To qualify, students were required to secure a minimum aggregate of 40%. Those who clear the exam will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 1,000 for four years until they complete Class XII.In the state, Tirunelveli topped with 659 students clearing the exam, followed by Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Salem and Erode.
