22 kg of ganja seized near Trichy; two arrested

TRICHY: The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau-Crime investigation department (NIB-CID) seized 22 kg of ganja from two men in a car near Samayapuram on the Chennai – Trichy road in Trichy on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, an NIB-CID team comprising deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bharath Srinivasan, inspector T Ramesh and others intercepted a car at Samayapuram toll gate.
The search exposed the concealment of the contraband of 22 kg of ganja in the car.
The NIB-CID valued the contraband at Rs 22 lakh. The police also seized the car.
The police arrested P Aasai, 38, of Devaram in Theni district and R Bhuvaneswaran, 34, of Housing board in Theni.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two had gone to Vishakapattinam in Andhra Pradesh and tried to smuggle ganja to Theni.
The duo were remanded in judicial custody.
