TRICHY: Health department officials of the Trichy Corporation on Monday seized around 2.50 tonne of banned plastic products, including plastic carry bags, from commercial streets here.
A total fine of Rs 30,000 was levied on eight shops for stocking the plastic products that were banned by the
Tamil Nadu government.
The corporation said they were alerted about the continuous sales and circulation of banned plastic products in the Gandhi Market vicinity.
“The wholesale plastic traders are desperate to sell their stocks that they had procured before the implementation of the ban. They were sensitised and warned not to sell the banned plastic products further,” city health officer Dr A Jaganathan told TOI.
