Trichy: Trichy city police seized 55 litres of illegal liquor, valued at around 37,000, which had been kept for sales over the past one week. They arrested around 12 people across the city for selling the illicit liquor.
The accused were selling the illegal liquor near various locations in the city, including Cantonment, EB Road, Edamalaipatti Pudur, Kooni Bazaar, Puthur, Anna Statue, Azhagiripuram, and Ponmalai. They were arrested during raids conducted from March 18 to 24.
Police seized around 279 liquor bottles containing a total quantity of 55 litres. The accused were produced before magistrates and remanded in judicial custody.
Among the major catches, on March 20, police seized around 57 bottles measuring about 10.2 litres and valued at more than 8,000, kept for sales near Ramji Nagar in Edamalaipatti Pudur. On March 22, police seized around 81 bottles measuring about 19.7 litres and valued at more than 11,560 in raids conducted at four various places.
Trichy city police's prohibition and enforcement wing (PEW) registered some cases, while stations such as Golden Rock, Palakkarai, Fort, and Srirangam also booked the accused.
