1 held, 36kg of banned tobacco items seized

Trichy: Police arrested a 34-year-old man and seized around 36kg of banned tobacco products worth ₹51,300 in Srirangam on Sunday. A police team led by sub-inspector Sundaram seized the banned products during a vehicle check near Mambazhasalai. The team stopped a two-wheeler and found the rider in possession of tobacco products. The accused was identified as Arunpandian of Selva Vinayagar Kovil Street, E B Road. He was booked under sections 6 read with 24(1) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COTP) Act and Section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and remanded in judicial custody.In a separate case, the Palakkarai police have seized 100g of banned pan masala at Manal Varithurai Road. They arrested Viswa Bharathi, 21. He was later released on bail.
