Trichy: 1 arrested for burning Lord Ram’s image

TRICHY: Police have arrested a man for allegedly burning and desecrating an image of Lord Ram near Ayanputhur in Trichy district.

The move followed a complaint lodged by right-wing groups after a video of the act circulated on social media, sparking tensions.

The incident allegedly took place on Sept 28 in Guntur village under Thiruverumbur block, where members of a group called Ainthaam Tamil Sangam reportedly defiled and set fire to the image.

On Wednesday, members of Hindu Munnani, VHP, and BJP staged a protest outside the Trichy superintendent of police's office, demanding strict action.

Following SP S Selvanagarathinam's instructions, police registered a case against the group and arrested one suspect. The accused and others were booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
