T'PURAM: A 24-year-old man on Monday evening allegedly stabbed to death a second-year degree student who had allegedly objected to the harassment of his sister in Kollam.
The incident took place in Uliyakovil in Kollam when the accused Thejas Raj barged into the house of deceased Febin George Gomaz and stabbed him.
According to Febin's friends and teachers, Thejas, a native of Neendakara, sought revenge over Febin questioning the harassment of his sister. Febin's sister, who works at a private bank in Kozhikode, rejected Thejas's marriage proposal which irked him. Meanwhile, her marriage was also fixed to be held in a few months. Febin even warned Thejas against pestering his sister.
On Monday, Thejas reached Febin's house in a car wearing a purdah around 7pm. He knocked on the door and attacked Febin's father George Gomaz with a knife when he opened the door. Later, he stabbed Febin several times all over his body and even poured some liquid on his body. Bleeding, Febin ran out of the house crying for help. In the meantime, the accused fled the spot in the car, leaving the knife on the road near the house.
Meanwhile, locals rushed Febin and his father to the district hospital, where George Gomaz remains in stable condition. On the other hand, Thejas left the scene and died by suicide by jumping in front of a train at Chemmamukku. Thejas was the son of a senior police officer at the district crime records bureau.
Febin was a second-year BCA student at Fatima Mata National College (FMNC). "Febin shared his concern about the threat posed by the attacker to his friends. There was a quarrel between them over this," said a faculty member of FMNC.
Kollam East Police registered a case under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for murder and began a probe. "It's a crime of passion. It's worrying that young minds do not know the value of life. The probe is on, and the exact cause of the murder will be known only through a proper investigation," said Kiran Narayanan, Kollam city police commissioner.
