YC tried to incite riots in guise of protest: CPM
T'puram: CPM state secretariat on Saturday condemned the violent protests by Youth Congress at health minister Veena George's official residence. In a statement, CPM state secretariat said Youth Congress workers were trying to incite rioting in the name of protests.
CPM said it couldn't sit idle while opposition disrupted public events of health minister, gate-crashed her residence and damaged property and police vehicles. "There is an ongoing attempt to incite riots across the state. For the past 10 years, Kerala saw governance that ensured people's welfare and the state's development, without any widespread public protests. Those who are intolerant of this progress are attempting to push the state towards unnecessary protests, violence and riots," said the statement.
"Govt and LDF never adopted an intolerant stance towards democratic protests or dissent. Though LDF also organised public protests, it never resorted to personally attacking a minister or placing a wreath at their home," said the CPM statement. LDF govt showed no leniency towards isolated errors that occurred in between. Investigations were conducted, and strict action had been taken in each case, it added.
"The fact is that even the number of errors in surgeries as calculated by World Health Organization doesn't occur in Kerala. There is a deliberate move to overshadow achievements in the health sector and tarnish its image due to certain incidents," the statement said.
CPM blamed a section of media for promoting violence by exaggerating facts and spreading misinformation to incite riots. "They should withdraw from such misleading propaganda that disrupts the state. Everyone should cooperate to maintain the peaceful atmosphere in state," said the secretariat statement.
