Thiruvananthapuram: A national women’s theatre festival will be organized at Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan here from December 23 to 25 to mark the 23rd anniversary of Nireeksha Women’s Theatre.
The festival, organized by Nireeksha, will showcase 14 plays by women directors in various genres over the three days. It will also include theatre workshops for women, seminars in which women from various fields will present papers, poetry presentation, music programme and Kalari performance by women.
Besides these, there will be a three-day drama workshop exclusively for women of Rangasree in collaboration with Kudumbashree. The workshop will be led by women theatre experts from inside and outside Kerala.
Nireeksha is organizing this event in collaboration with the Union ministry of culture, department of cultural affairs, government of Kerala, Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan and Kudumbashree.
The organizers said they were planning to make the theatre festival an annual affair and upgrade it into an international women’s theatre festival.
A committee has been formed with Rajarajeswari, Sudhi Devayani, Sushama Vijayalakshmi and Soya Thomas as members for organizing the festival.
