Thiruvananthapuram: Neyyattinkara police arrested two men who allegedly assaulted a woman and stabbed her in the neck using a wood splinter at Maruthamcode in Athiyannur panchayat here on Monday. The police identified the accused as Aneesh and Nikhil. Vijayakumari, 43, who was assaulted, underwent a surgery at the medical college hospital and is currently being treated in ICU. The incident happened on Sunday noon. According to her daughter Sivakala, Vijayakumari reportedly questioned the accused after she spotted them taking her images and videos.
“When my mother asked them to stop taking photos, they barged into our premises and started hitting my mother. One of them picked up a splinter and stabbed her in the neck,” said Sivakala.
The police said that they couldn’t find any videos or images on the mobile phones of the accused. According to police, the assault on Vijayakumari was triggered by an ongoing property dispute. Aneesh had purchased a plot opposite to the property owned by Vijayakumari. Sivakala said that they had forcibly entered their premises and taken measurements recently. The police have pressed charges for criminal trespass, wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt and attempt to murder.
