Vayalar cultural fest to begin on Oct 21

T'puram: The Vayalar Ramavarma cultural festival will be held in the city from Oct 21 to 27. As part of this, a week-long festival of film songs created by Vayalar, P Baskaran, Poovachal Khader, Bichu Thirumala, Yusafali Kacheri, Devarajan, Dakshinamurthy, K Raghavan, Salil Chowudhury, M S Viswanathan, Raveendran, Jhonson, M B Sreenivasan, and Baburaj is also planned.
About 50 singers from yesteryears and new-age singers will be part of the festival. A dance performance by students of different colleges and a poetry recital session will also be held. CPM state secretary M V Govindan will inaugurate the festival at Karthika Thirunal Theatre.
On Oct 22, UDF convener M M Hassan will inaugurate a cultural session. Goa governor P S Sreedharan Pillai will inaugurate the literary session on Oct 23. The closing ceremony will be inaugurated by food and civil supplies minister G R Anil on Oct 26.
On the occasion of the 48th death anniversary of Vayalar, a special function will be organized at Vayalar Square at Manaveeyam Veedhi.
