THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Television Awards for the year 2010 was announced here on Wednesday with no serial, in the story section, adhering to the guidelines stipulated by the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy. As per academy norms, serials with 52 episodes that have completed their telecast by December 2010 will qualify for the awards. But all the three serials, whose name came up, overshot their telecast beyond the cut-off date.

Minister for sports and cinema, K B Ganesh Kumar said guidelines will be modified from next year so that the mega-serials can compete. "We are thinking of modifying the award norms. One suggestion is that those serials, which have completed many episodes within the cut-off date, can be considered," Ganesh Kumar said. He said that a system of 'Gallup poll' was also being considered in which the viewers can send SMSs to choose the best serial.
The awards for 2010 were given in three sections- fiction, non-fiction and writing. In fiction section, the best telefilm - with duration less than 20 minutes - was bagged by 'Pranayathil Oruval Vazthappedum Vidham' directed by Manilal. 'Planning' directed by Sudevan won the award for telefilm that spanned over 20 minutes. The award for best storywriter went to Santhosh Echikkanam. 'Comedy Stars' won the award for best comedy programme and Abi was chosen as the best comedy artist. Best short-film for children went to 'Colours of the rain' by Rajesh Raghavan.
In the non-fiction category, award for the best documentary went to 'Kaippad' directed by Babu Kambrath. The award for best documentary in the biography section went to 'O V Vijayan- Sandehiyude Samvada Doorangal'.
In the writing section, A Chandrasekhar won the award for the best article in Malayalam on television with 'Realitykku Pinnile Reality: Chila Manushyavakasha Chinthakal'.
The minister said most telefilms and documentaries were not telecasted and the academy would organize a two-day fest to showcase these works. The jury for fiction section was headed by lyricist Poovachal Khader, while non-fiction section was headed by cameraman S Kumar. The writing section was headed by writer John Paul.
