Thrissur: The mother and family members of the slained Congress activist at Chavakkad A C Haneefa held a dharna in front of the district collectorate on Thursday demanding firm action against his murderers.
Isha, mother of Haneefa said as per the information received by them, Gopa Prathaban, former president of Guruvaryoor Block Congress Committee, had a crucial role in the conspiracy behind the murder, which was popularly perceived as a sequel to the group rivalry in the party.
She said powerful people were pressurising the police to avoid a proper investigation, and that is why the real accused in the case are not arrested even after eight months of murder. The agitation would continue till Gopa Prathaban is arrested, Isha said.
Writer and social activist Sarah Joseph who inaugurated the dharna alleged political conspiracy behind Haneefa's murder and urged quick actions for justice to the family. Former revenue minister and CPI leader K P Rajendran took part in the agitation.
