THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the 14th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) at Kairali theatre on Friday.

As part of the fest, 262 films will be screened at Kairali, Shree and Nila theatres. Films will be screened in 12 categories, including long documentary, short documentary, international short fiction, campus films, non-competitive Malayalam category, homage, animation and music video.

As many as 19 films that have won awards at various international festivals, including Brazilian director Bruno Ribeiro’s ‘Sunday Morning and Trap’, will be screened in the festival’s Best of the World section.

There will be five films in the package of films shot on iPhone, and a special package of films that expose the wounds of war. Eight films by celebrated documentary director Reena Mohan, who had won the Lifetime Achievement Award this year, will also be screened.

Around 1,200 delegates and 250 filmmakers, including Anjali Monteiro, Joshi Joseph, Urdu director Danish Ringsu and Bengali director Somnath Mondal will be part of the festival.

Sessions like ‘Meet the Director’, ‘Face-to-Face’ to discuss current trends in documentary and short film making, and ‘In-Conversation’ with leading filmmakers participating in the fair will be organized.
