Sexual assault not linked to girl’s suicide: SIT
Thiruvananthapuram: Poonthura police on Tuesday night arrested a 22-year-old youth under Pocso Act for sexually assaulting a minor girl, who had committed suicide at a madrassa at Balaramapuram on May 13. The arrested Hashim Khan, 22, of Muttathara village of Beemapalli West, was remanded after producing before a court.
However, the special investigation team probing the case, on the basis of the allegation levelled by her mother that she was harassed at the madrassa, made it clear that the sexual assault by the youth was no way connected to her suicide.

The exact reasons behind the suicide are being probed, the police said.
“In the posmortem report, it was revealed that the girl was subjected to sexual assault six months ago. However, we were clueless of the accused. During examination of the call details and chats we got from the girl’s phone we got clues about Hashim and later CCTV footage of a hotel, where they stayed together, confirmed his involvement in the crime. Since the crime took place in Poonthura police station limits, the case was transferred to the station concerned,” said the Balaramapuram police.
The probe team also revealed that they have not received any clue to link the girl’s suicide with any other issue.
