Prime accused Joy is the husband of Vineetha.
Initially, police had concluded it as a case of cardiac arrest. “’The coroner could not find any marks of assault on the body as it was in a decaying stage,” said Vizhinjam CI N Shibu.
The twist in the case came when Joy and Jijin, while consuming liquor in a bar, discussed the murder, which was overheard by a few residents. They apprehended them and handed them over to the police, who questioned them and uncovered the conspiracy.
According to his family, Vinu was allegedly suffering from mental problems and he used to physically assault his mother and sister. During one such instance, he allegedly grabbed Vineetha’s two-year-old daughter and ran outside to throw her into a lake nearby.

They later moved into a rented house, leaving Vinu alone in the ancestral house.
Recently, Vinu met Nirmala on the road and he tried to attack her again. It was after this, they decided to kill him. Joy sought the help of his friends in this regard and executed the plan by strangulating the victim using a bath towel on June 2.
Accused were charged with sections of murder (302) and conspiracy (120(b)) of IPC.
