Row erupts over syndicate meeting at KTU

T'puram: The rift between the state govt nominees in the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and interim vice chancellor K Sivaprasad has intensified.After the university's registrar refused to implement the directive of the VC regarding a syndicate meeting held last week, the VC himself has issued an order cancelling the decisions and proceedings conducted during the meeting held in his absence.When a syndicate member moved to discuss a report against a pro-Congress union leader, Sivaprasad turned it down. The VC then declared the meeting invalid and vacated the meeting hall, sources said. He also reported the same to the chancellor.However, university registrar A Praveen reportedly went ahead with the meeting and did not cancel the decisions and proceedings as requested by the VC. It is also alleged that the registrar did not respond to the explanation sought by Sivaprasad on why he went ahead with the meeting.Former governor Arif Mohammed Khan had appointed Sivaprasad as interim KTU VC, without reportedly considering the names suggested by the state govt. Following this, political functionaries, representing the CPM, in the syndicate and a section of officials affiliated with the Left unions had clashed with the VC on issues.
