Thiruvananthapuram: A 22-year-old man employed under the Southern Railways on contract basis died at Parassala on Saturday after he fell off from the terrace of a building while on duty.

, son of Rustin and Suji of Panankalavila house,

Kuryankara

near Parassala is the deceased.
The police said that

Raj fell off from the terrace of the two-storeyed building at Kuryankara where Parassala panchayat office used to function until a few months ago. The mishap occurred around 1.20 pm.
Nithin S Raj was part of a group of railway employees who turned up at the building for a land survey as a dispute existed that the building was located on railway land. While engrossed in taking measurements on top of the terrace, Nithin S Raj unknowingly moved towards the portion of the terrace where the parapet wall was missing and he fell down through that gap. Though he was rushed to a hospital nearby, the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Besides parents Nithin S Raj leaves behind a sister

Neethu S Raj

and wife, Gopika, who is two-months pregnant.
The panchayat office was shifted to another building after severe soil erosion during the rains last year put the building at risk.
