THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nine police and three jail officials from the state will be conferred medals for distinguished and meritorious service that were announced on the eve of the Republic Day.
The list includes two senior IPS officers of the 1988 batch -- ADGP (armed police battalion) B Sandhya and ADGP Anil Kant who is currently the chairman and managing director of Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation.
The two will be honoured with the President's police medal for distinguished service.
Officials who will be honoured for meritorious service include SP (vigilance and anti-corruption bureau, southern range) S Shajahan Firoz; deputy SP of Thiruvalla Tampi S Durga Prasad; sub-inspector of armed police, Kerala Police Academy, M K Sreenivasan; assistant sub-inspector, special branch CID, Kollam, G Hari Prasad; assistant sub-inspector, crime branch CID, Ernakulam, A J Varghese; assistant sub-inspector, vigilance and anti-corruption bureau, central range, Kochi, K N Ramarajan; and senior civil police officer, district headquarters wing, Thrissur, Thalokaran Raphel Gladstone.
Three jail officials -- superintendent, special sub jail, Neyyattinkara, D Sathyaraj; head warder, central prison, Kannur, K Vasantha Kumar; and head warder, sub jail, Ponnani, E Krishnadas -- will also be honoured with meritorious award for correctional service. tnn

Ajit Kumar P and Commodore Anil Jose Joseph, both officers hailing from Kerala, will be honoured with Ati Vishist Seva medal and Vishist Seva medal, respectively, for distinguished service of an exceptional order at a ceremony to be held as a part of Republic Day at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Commander K M Arun Kumar will be conferred Nao Sena medal for search and rescue in adverse weather conditions. His brother, Wing Commander K M Raghuraman, a pilot with the
Indian Air Force, will be conferred Vayu Sena medal for rescue operations during the massive landslides in Uttarakhand last year.
