THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The crime branch team, which is probing the death of a 14-year-old boy who was found dead in a pond near his residence at Bharathanoor near Palode 10 years ago, exhumed the mortal remains of the boy from the burial site near his residence with the help of forensic team on Monday.
Adarsh Vijayan, son of Vijayan and Sheeja couple, had left home to a nearby shop and never returned home on April 5, 2009.
The case, which was initially closed as an unnatural death due to drowning by local police back in 2009 was reopened and later handed over to crime branch following suspicion raised by the kin of the deceased who suspected the case to be a
murder following sexual assault.
According to investigating officer DSP N Harikumar, the forensic team that was at Bharathanoor has recovered necessary remains from the burial site and they will send that for a series of tests and repostmortems. “The collected mortal remains will be taken to forensic labs where they will be examined to see if anything that has been missed in the initial inquest and postmortem done in 2009 can be recovered,” the DSP said.
Adarsh’s half-naked body was floating in the pond and his trousers were found at the bank had seminal stains, which led to the relatives strongly suspecting a case of sexual assault.
