Receipt in waste leads RPF to garbage dumping culprit

T'puram: Railway Protection Force (RPF) used a receipt found in waste to crackdown on illegal dumping of garbage bags by the side of tracks between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Pettah railway stations.A private agency in charge of removing garbage from commercial establishments had dumped bags of wet garbage near the tracks. A case was registered, a fine was levied and garbage was removed. The incident came to light on Thursday when track maintenance staff reported the presence of multiple garbage bags along the railway track. RPF T'puram Central examined CCTV footage and collected on-ground evidence, during which the constables found a receipt with the name of a local cooperative society. The RPF team traced the source of the garbage to a nearby commercial establishment that had outsourced the disposal of fruit waste, said an official. Further inquiry revealed that the establishment had engaged an individual for disposal of the waste at a charge per bag, who dumped the waste in the railway area. He was traced and a case was registered under Sections 147 and 145(b) of the Railway Act. He removed the dumped garbage from the railway premises and the railway health authorities also imposed a disinfection charge of Rs 5,000. The authorities have urged public to alert them about illegal dumping of garbage and have said that trespass and nuisance are punishable offences under Sections 147 and 145(b) of the Railway Act.Get real-time updates and result insights on the CBSE 12 Result 2026.
