Thiruvananthapuram: The Pettah police on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a case related to the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl.
The police identified the accused as Kishore alias Anu (23), of Chirakkulam near Vanchiyoor. He is the second accused in the case and is accused of aiding the rape. The police had earlier arrested the first accused, Sujith, in July.
According to the police, the case against the accused was that they intoxicated the victim, a school girl, by giving her ganja before one of them sexually exploited her.
The incident pertaining to the case took place in June at Kishore’s residence at Chirakkulam.
Pettah circle inspector Suresh V Nair said that the girl knew the two accused before as they all lived in the same neighbourhood. She also shared a close relationship with Sujith, who was a college student. But, the accused exploited the trust she had in them. Sujith took her to Kishore’s residence, where they forced her to smoke ganja. After she lost her senses, Sujith raped her.
Following the incident, she revealed the matter to her teachers at school. The teachers alerted the Childline officials, who counselled the girl, confirmed rape and then alerted the cops. Both the accused went absconding after the case was registered.
The circle inspector also said that Kishore was a jobless youth, who was a substance addict. It was the team led by Vanchiyoor Sub Inspector Saju that caught the accused. He was produced before the court and was remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, the first accused Sujith has come out of prison after securing bail on completion of remand period.
