Police withdraw ‘mic case’ as CM intervenes

Thiruvananthapuram: A day after the Cantonment police registered a case over the howling noise that occurred from the sound system when chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan came to speak at the commemoration meeting of Oommen Chandy, the chief minister has asked the police to the withdraw the case.
After registering a case, the police had seized the mic, amplifier and the cables used at the meeting from the sound system operator, Renjith. Following the directive from the chief minister, the police gave back the seized items.
“The police checked the sound system and found that there was nothing wrong with it. Due to massive crowd that had assembled in the hall somebody had accidently touched the amplifier and hence the howling sound had come. But it was rectified within seconds. This is the first time that a case has been registered for the howling sound. But the police have concluded that it has not occurred purposefully,” owner of the S V Sounds, Renjith said.
However, the Congress-led opposition had come out strongly against the case. Opposition leader V D Satheesan had alleged that “the police have registered a case with mic as the first accused and the amplifier as the second accused.” KPCC president K Sudhakaran alleged that the chief minister was afraid of the microphone and hence the case was registered.
But the CPM leaders are suspecting foul play by the Congress leaders. “The sloganeering when the chief minister had come to speak and the sudden howling sound from the mic, all are raising curious eyebrows,” CPM leader A K Balan said.
