THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have registered a case against the 'namajapa ghoshayatra' organized by the NSS Thiruvananthapuram taluk union on Wednesday as a mark of protest against speaker A N Shamseer's controversial reference to Lord Ganesha.

Cantonment police booked NSS vice-president Sangeeth Kumar and around 1,000 people who participated in the procession taken out from Palayam Ganapathy temple to Pazhavangadi Ganapathy temple. The case was charged for unlawful assembly.

NSS leadership said the procession was held peacefully and they were not going to stage any protest against the police case. "It's a case for Lord Ganapathy," they said. NSS members attached to 175 karayogams in the district participated in the procession. The procession which started at 5.30pm at Palayam concluded at East Fort. The procession reminded of the namajapa processions NSS organized during the Sabarimala agitation. Meanwhile, BJP workers took out a march to Secretariat on Thursday protesting against the police case.

RSS, VHP leaders visit NSS chief

Senior RSS pracharak S Sethumadhavan, VHP state president Viji Thampi and Ayyappa Seva Samajam office-bearer S J Kumar called on NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair at Perunna around 11am on Thursday and held talks. The leaders extended their support to the NSS on the Shamseer issue. Janapaksham leader P C George also called on Nair. BJP took out a march in Kottayam protesting the case against the namajapa procession.TNN
