Police arrest youth for attempting to murder 19-year-old girl

, investigating into the murder attempt on a lady in Irumpanam on Friday evening, arrested the youth involved in the case on Monday.

The youth was identified as Jiby Scaria(23), hailing from Koothaattukulam. According to police, Jiby and the 19–year-old lady got acquainted through facebook. Later she came to know about his

criminal background

as he was involved in many cases registered at Muvattupuzha, Kuravilanvadu and Ernakulam South police stations.

As she began to distance from Jiby, he started to threaten her by saying that he would share the snaps of their private moments on

social media

. He also tried to molest her on June 1 this year at a private hospital where she was working as a trainee.

Police said, on Friday evening Jiby reached Irumbanam, near the nursing institute where the girl was studying, with the intention to kill her. When she came out of the institute with her friends, Jiby in his Bullet motor bike reached near her and hacked her with the knife. She tried to block the attack and her hands got serious injuries. She became unconscious and locals rushed her to a private hospital.

Jiby managed to escape and he called the hospital authorities the other day and threatened them by saying that he will finish the girl. Then he left for Kannur. Police traced him through his mobile location.
