Police arrest friend for the death of state lottery winner

Thiruvananthapuram: Pangode police on Tuesday arrested a person over the death of a Madathara-native, who won a cash prize of Rs 80 lakhs in Kerala state lotteries lucky draw. The deceased Sajeev, (35), of Saji Vilasam at Thoottickal near Madathara in Pangode, had held a liquor party on Saturday night for his friends after the prize money was credited to his account. The police said, Sajeev was pushed down to a rubber plantation from a height of five feet by the accused during a drunken brawl and his neck suffered a severe fracture. The police have arrested Santhosh (48), alias Mayavi Santhosh of Cheenivila Veedu at Mankode near Mathira for the murder.The police also said there was no financial issue or any other kind of dispute behind Sajeev’s death. During the party, there was a heated exchange between Sajeev and Santhosh over a disagreement and the deceased was pushed down by the accused in the spur of the moment. The victim soon fell unconscious after he fell from the height. The friends then alerted Sajeev’s brother about the accident. Sajeev was soon rushed to a hospital, but his life could not be saved.The rubber plantation is located behind the house of one Rajendran Pillai, where the liquor party was held, and is nearly five feet below the courtyard.“Preliminary post mortem findings revealed that Sajeev died due to an injury he suffered on the neck during the fall. There were also eyewitnesses who saw Santhosh pushing him down to the plantation and Sajeev too told his brother before death that it was Santhosh who pushed him. The accused was arrested on the basis of these three factors and he has been remanded after being produced before a court on charge under section 302 of the IPC for murder,” said Suneesh N, station house officer at Pangode police station.
