ONV Kurup bags Swaralaya Yesudas award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: This year's Swaralaya-Kairali Yesudas Award would be presented to renowned poet and lyricist ONV Kurup on Wednesday. Gandharva Sandhya, a music and dance concert would follow the award function, to be organized at the Al Saj Convention Centre here. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan would inaugurate the function at 6pm.
Playback singer Unni Menon was selected for the popular singer award, which includes a purse of Rs one lakh and a statuette designed by sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman.National award winner Uthara Unnikrishnan would be felicitated. Yesteryear singer Thankam Rachel would be given a financial aid jointly by Eenam International, a cultural organization of non-resident Kerlaites and Swaralaya to build a house.
Instituted in the name of veteran playback singer K J Yesudas, the award would be presented by the singer himself. The awards were announced by Thiruvananthapuram city corporation mayor K Chandrika here on Saturday. Entry is free for the 4-hour long programme organised by Kairali channel and Swaralaya.
