THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It will be a key to better and secure life for 60 year old Hariharan, who has been provided a ‘On the wheels shop’ in of the second phase of the Bhagya Theruvu project of Jwala Foundation, a city based NGO. The key to the on the wheels shop was presented to Hariharan by managing director of Favourite Homes Martin Thomas in a function organised by Jwala Foundation at Hassan Marikar Hall on Thursday.
As part of the project, on the wheel shops worth Rs 20000 each are being distributed to 10 destitutes in the city, who can set it up according to their convenience location in the city, as it is mobile. These selected people were among the 30 destitutes who were provided lottery tickets in the launch of Bhagya Theruvu project in May. “After a regular monitoring of their trade and those among the lottery ticket sellers who showed interest in this initiative were selected for the second phase of the project. It is more like to provide a better living condition and income for them,” said director Jwala Aswathy Nair.
Initial items for the shop to start off the sale are funded by the foundation. “With the profit earned from the sale, vendors can procure items afterwards. I hope that people will buy items from their shop as an encouragement,” added Aswathy, who aims to establish a rehabilitation centre for the homeless and destitute.
New clothes were also distributed among the destitutes at the function. Poet and activist VS Bindu, former KTDC Chairman Cheriyan Philiph, youth commission member Adv Swapna George and singer Sanidhnanthan were present.
