, passed away at a private hospital on Friday. She was under treatment for an undiagnosed illness.

Born in Kollam, Anandavally became a professional drama artist at the age of 14. She had associated with famous professional theatre groups such as Kalidasa Kala Kendram and Kerala People’s Art Club. Though Anandavally began acting in films in 1973, her voice made her popular. She was the most sought after

during 80s and 90s. She bagged the Kerala state award for best dubbing artist for Aadharam in 1992.

Actor and dubbing artist Shobi Thilakan remembered Anandavally as an artist par excellence. “She used to dub for three to four actors in a movie, and it was very difficult to identify that a single person was behind the voices. ‘Kanmadam’ is a proof of her versatility, where she lent her voice to a young girl as well as the grandmother,” Shobi said.

Dubbing artist Bhagyalekshmi said that Anandavally was a highly professional dubbing artist. “Others might ignore if asked to dub for a woman standing at a bus stop, but not chechi. She was not at all an egoistic person. She was a school for budding dubbing artists,” said Bhagyalekshmi.

Anandavally was acting in a TV serial ‘Neelakuyil’. She is survived by daughter Anu Lakshmi. Her son Dhipan, a film director, passed away in 2017. Her mortal remains will be kept at the Bharath Bhavan between 10am and 1pm for the public to pay homage.The cremation will be held on the premises of her residence at Nemom at 3pm on Saturday. tnn
