Thiruvananthapuram: As part of promoting Indian classical music, Bharat Bhavan, the cultural exchange centre of the state government, Pandit Motiram Narayan Sangeet Vidyalay of Mewati-Swati Gharana and YMCA Thiruvananthapuram are jointly organizing a khayal festival, which will be held on Saturday.
Culture minister A K Balan will inaugurate the two-day festival, Mewati-Swati Khayal Fest 2018, at 9am on YMCA Hall.
Musician Perumbavoor G Raveendranath will be the chief guest.
A one-day workshop on Hindustani classical music will be held as part of the event on the second day, on Sunday.
Lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi, Pandit Amaren Draneswar of Gwalior Gharana and Pandit Aditya Narayana Banerjee of Lucknow Gharana will be felicitated at the function. Pandit Ramesh Narayanan, his disciples and Hindustani singers from various parts of the country will present khayals after that.
Hindustani jugalbandi by Hema Narayanan and K R Shyama will also be held followed by Pandit Amarendra Dhaneswar (vocal) and Pandit Aditya Narayan Banerjee (tabala) will also perform.
Pandit Ramesh Narayanan, Pandit Amarendra Dhaneswar and Pandit Aidtya Narayana Banerjee will handle various sessions of the workshop.
