Tender issued for multilevel car park at medical college
Thiruvananthapuram: In a move that could go a long way in addressing parking woes, the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) has issued a tender to set up a multilevel car parking system at medical college. The project envisages design, manufacturing, supply, installation and maintenance of an automated/mechanical multilevel mechanical car parking system on EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) mode. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 16.58 crore and the project is expected to be completed in six months from awarding the work. The parking system is designed to accommodate 202 cars.As per the contract conditions, the agency shall provide the structural stability certificate to SCTL. However, the checking and vetting of design/drawings shall not absolve the agency from the responsibilities of any failure in the structural design during construction as well as during the life period of the structures of 30 years. The maximum parking/ retrieval time will not be more than 180 seconds. In case of an emergency, the evacuation time for all the parked vehicles will not be more than 180 minutes, the scope of the work notes. The corporation council had earlier approved the decision to transfer two multilevel car parking projects under Amrut-1 to Smart City. The projects were envisaged in 2016 under Amrut-1 at the main office, Putharikandam and medical college. However, after seven years, one project was implemented, and two projects were transferred to SCTL.The piling works of the MLCP at Putharikandam were completed by the contractor and later the contract was terminated without any risk and cost to the contractor. The work on MLCP on the medical college premises was also terminated without any risk and cost to the contractor. The executive committee of SCTL had given sanction to include these works under Smart City projects. The state-level high powered steering committee (SHPSC) had granted permission to transfer the funds from Amrut-1 to the Smart City for the MLCP at Putharikandam Ground and medical college. The SCTL has also issued a retender for the MLCP at Putharikandam. Three bidders turned up in the first round of the bid, however, the amount quoted was much higher than the estimate. The probable amount of contract for MLCP at Putharikandam is Rs 20 crore. The SCTL has set a deadline of eight months for the completion of the project. As many as 210 cars can be parked here. The SCTL opened the MLCP opposite the central railway station to the public in April 2023. The total cost of the project was Rs 22.9 crore and the structure can be used to park 400 two wheelers and 22 cars.
