Mother arrested in Balaramapuram child murder case
Thiruvananthapuram: Balaramapuram police on Saturday arrested Sreethu S, 30, the mother of the two-year-old child Devendhu who was found dead in the well at her house on Jan 30 this year. Sreethu's brother Harikumar, 26, was arrested earlier for murdering the child. He admitted to the police that he threw the child into the well. The probe team also conducted a DNA test and found that Sreethu's husband was not the child's biological father. Sreethu, of Roadarikathu Veedu at Kottukalkonam near Anthiyur, was arrested after the probe team gathered crucial evidence from the mobile phone of the accused, substantiating her role in the murder of Devendhu. "Forensic examination of the mobile phones of Harikumar and Sreethu revealed that Harikumar had a relationship with Sreethu. On the night of Jan 29, Harikumar asked Sreethu to reach his room, but the crying child was an obstacle. Annoyed by it, Harikumar killed the child by throwing him into the well, and Sreethu is equally responsible for it as she could have prevented him from doing it," said police. The accused had no emotional attachment to the child, said the probe team after examining the chat details of Sreethu and Harikumar. Harikumar was subjected to a polygraph test. Sreethu was arrested in Palakkad, where she was staying with her friends who were accused in a theft case. She was earlier arrested in a cheating case. A court remanded her when produced before a magistrate on a charge under Section 103 of BNS for murder. "The probe into the case will continue to collect more evidence and also to find out the biological father of the child," said police.
