Minister lauds IFFK’s role in bringing good films to public

Thiruvananthapuram: Higher education minister R Bindu said that the responsibility of bringing excellent films to the public is fully fulfilled through the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). She was speaking at the inauguration of the media cell for the 29th IFFK at Tagore Theatre.
The minister said the approach from filmmakers should be inclusive of all sections. Each film at the festival bears witness to the lives and survival of various human societies around the world. For the audience, the film festival becomes a global travel experience. The presence of the youth of Kerala makes the festival more vibrant, she added.
Films by female directors released with the cooperation of KSFDC like Divorce directed by Mini IG, Nishiddho by Tara Ramanujan, Nila by Indu Lakshmi, and B 32 to 44 by Shruti Sharanyam, being showcased at IFFK is an example of the govt's pro-women stance. It is notable that groups previously excluded from the path of film culture are now entering this field strongly, the minister added.
Meanwhile, Chalachitra Academy chairman Premkumar in his introductory speech said that participation of directors Ann Hui, Payal Kapadia, and Agnes Godard, who is coming as the jury chairperson, and festival curator Golda Sellam are examples of the strong female representation at this year's festival.
