THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 51-year-old man was arrested by police for attacking his daughter and in-laws using an iron rod demanding the ancestral property of his deceased wife at Mannanthala on Saturday night.

In the attack, a portion of the skull of the father-in-law was damaged completely and he still remains in the ICU ventilator at the Medical College Hospital. In the attack the daughter sustained a fracture on her hand and the mother-in-law was injured on the head and face.

Vijayakumari, 64, near Nalanchira, her husband Pavithran, 65, and granddaughter Bhagyalekshmi, 21, were attacked by Biju, a Vattappara native.

Biju was arrested by police on Sunday morning, and he has been remanded after being produced before a court .

Biju's wife Manju, a former KSRTC staff, had died three years ago and since then Biju used to quarrel with his in-laws demanding to get Manju's ancestral property registered in his name.

On Saturday night, the accused trespassed into the house carrying an iron rod and hit Pavithran on the head several times.

As Pavithran collapsed in the attack, Vijayakumari and Bhagyalekshmi ran out of the house to escape from him. However, he chased them and brutally attacked them using the iron rod. Seeing the women being beaten up, people living in the vicinity came for their rescue. Meanwhile, the accused escaped from there. Soon the injured were rushed to the hospital and their condition remains stable, informed police.

According to police, Biju also used to assault his 11-year-old son who lives with him.
