THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Director-screenwriter Ranjith, who resigned from the post of Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman over his alleged misbehaviour with a Bengali actor, said he would fight legally.
Claiming innocence, Ranjith termed the allegations an organised attack against the LDF govt.
In an audio clip, Ranjith said: “I am not ready to continue in the post of the chairman of the academy as it would adversely affect the LDF govt’s reputation. I’ve decided to bring out the truth through a legal fight. I have already consulted this with my advocates and steps would be taken soon.’’
He described the development “as a well-orchestrated conspiracy” against him. He said it had started ever since he took over the academy’s chairman post.
Though culture minister Saji Cherian had said that the govt did not demand his resignation, sources close to the chief minister’s office said that it was sought from Ranjith. The final decision on whether he should continue in the post or not came from none other than the CM himself and the message was communicated to Ranjith.
Ranjith who had no other options left with the CPM and the LDF finding it difficult to protect him, decided to resign.
The CPI had openly demanded his resignation.
The Bengali actor said she was neither happy nor sad with his resignation. “It does not affect me. I’ve already said whatever has happened to me,’’ she said.
