KU syndicate decides to remove principal

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala University syndicate meeting held on Saturday decided to remove Kattakkada Christian College principal G J Shyju from his post and recommended his suspension for deliberately manipulating the college union election result.University vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummel said that the Christian College authorities will be asked to implement the KU syndicate’s decisions at the earliest, and failure in doing so would naturally invite disciplinary action, including cancellation of the college’s affiliation. The university is also planning to disqualify the principal from all university duties for the next five years.The syndicate has also decided to file a police case against Shyju and SFI leader Visakh, who in connivance with the principal, manipulated the list of winners and managed to impersonate as the university union councillor in place of the elected representative Anakha.Following the controversy over the impersonation bid by the SFI leader, the vice-chancellor had given orders to put in abeyance the entire election process to the Kerala University union.Since the stalling of the election would cause a loss of time, effort and money, the syndicate has also decided to recoup the loss from the principal.CPM had earlier suspended Visakh from the party local committee, and SFI removed him from all organisational responsibilities following the controversy. The pro-Congress teachers’ organisation has also suspended Shyju from the organisation following the incident.
