Youth Icon Awards

were distributed on Tuesday, at an event held here. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran (arts), football player C K Vineeth (sports), scriptwriter P V Shajikumar (literature), Varun Chandran (business), Ashla Rani M D (social service) and Rajesh Krishnan (agriculture) were presented with awards in the respective categories.

“Agriculture is my politics. Farming and reaping a crop is more of a social commitment than a means of livelihood for me. Everyone talks big about agriculture, invites the young generation to work in this field. But the reality is that there are no funds or no support for farmers,” said Rajesh Krishnan while receiving the awards.

Dedicating the award to all farmers living and dead, Rajesh said there was still this social stigma that depicts agriculture as a profession for the uneducated and poor. “But they simply fail to understand the magic that can be created out of a single rice grain,” he said.

The Youth Icon Award distribution and festival against communalism was inaugurated by LSG minister KT Jaleel. “We should train our mind to accept all religions and beliefs and see beyond the restrictions laid down by the society,’’ said K T Jaleel.
