KINFRA’s Greenfield EMC obtains ‘Final Approval’
THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Referred to as the Make in India- Make in Kerala Project, the proposed Greenfield Electronics Manufacturing cluster (EMC) of international standards at Kakkanad in Ernakulum, has received the much-awaited final approval from the Union ministry of communication and information Technology (MCIT).
The proposal for EMC from Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) had earlier received the in-principle approval from the Union government and discussions were on for its final approval. Now the decision of final clearance for the proposal has come in from the Steering Committee meeting led by the Electronics & IT department secretary of the MCIT at New Delhi. KINFRA managing director Dr M Beena and manager (technical) G Sunil had attended the meeting.
KINFRA has already acquired 67 acres land at Ernakulum to set up the proposed EMC adjacent the existing Industrial Park. At the EMC, KINFRA assures to provide the required infrastructure including developed land, power, water supply and communication facilities to set up export-oriented Electronic Manufacturing industries. The units to come up in the EMC will be eligible for the privileges under M-SIP (Modified Special Incentive Package) Scheme and it is planned to execute the EMC Project in a phased manner, KINFRA officials said.
For the proposed Rs 157 crore EMC, KINFRA had already prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and submitted it to the Union Government. The project is expected to receive Rs 50 crore in the first phase from the Union government. The target beneficiaries at the EMC will include all electronic manufacturing companies such computers, laptops, tablets, consumer electronics such television, telecom firms, lighting, semiconductors and industrial electronics.
With its liberal industrial policy, Kerala government looks forward to attract investors and is devised to open the gateway for business expansion. It also aims to make the state an investment friendly destination and to open up job opportunities in addition to developing entrepreneurship.
