Traders to protest before Raj Bhavan
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Vypari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi will organise a march to Raj Bhavan on Nov 7, demanding the withdrawal of anti-trade policies of the central govt, including a notification issued regarding GST on building rent.In a statement, the Samithi said, "A supportive environment should be created for small traders to run their business in a dignified manner. The govt should be prepared to treat corporates and small traders differently. The govt should also stop continuing its anti-trade policies, including the recent notification issued with regard to GST on building rent."In Kerala, more than 4 lakh traders have GST registration, and the recent notification issued by CBIC in this regard will largely affect their business. The govt needs to withdraw this as soon as possible."On one hand, domestic and international monopolies are consolidating their dominance in the retail sector, and on the other, online platforms that already have urban areas under their control are now expanding to villages as well. At this stage, the small traders cannot survive without the support of the govt. But instead of helping, the central govt was imposing strict restrictions on them," said the statement.
