THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first major Malayalam e-mail service, promoted by Bangalore-based Kavery Communications Ltd, was launched here today by Kerala Industries and Information Technology Minister P K Kunhalikutty.
The service, e-tapaal, would enable one to send mail in Malayalam or in English besides provide a cost-effective business solution for organisations with necessary data security, the portal''s promoter K N Harikumar said.
"E-tapaal.com is a unique portal aimed at not only at ensuring widespread use of e-mail but also in bridging the digital divide through the use of languages.It will shortly launch an instant messenger in languages also," Harikumar, former Managing Director and Editor of Deccan Herald group, said.
"It is a great thing to have a facility to communicate in one''s mother tongue," Kunhalikutty said, adding UDF government gave top priority to promote the use of IT as a tool to serve the people.
Already offering its facility in Kannada and Telugu, e-tapaal planned its service in many Indian languages, Harikumar added.
