Iranian director delighted to watch movie The Daughter with IFFK audience

Thiruvananthapuram: Iranian director Pouria Kakavand expressed his happiness at watching his film for the first time with the audience at International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).Kakavand's film The Daughter was screened in the world cinema section on Monday. Speaking at meet the director session on Wednesday, Kakavand said the film premiered at Shanghai International Film Festival, but he was unable to attend due to unrest in Iran. The director said that filmmakers often face scepticism in Iran. The Daughter explores the psychological complexities of imagined fatherhood. Director Sanju Surendran of Kidki Gaav, which is competing in the international section, also participated in the session. He stated that the movie reflects the experiences of a younger generation growing up in a suburban setting in Delhi. He also mentioned that Busan International Film Festival supported the film's post-production, with editing and colour correction completed in Seoul. Argentinian director Luis Sorraquin, whose thriller Kissing Bug is being screened at IFFK, said Kerala's film culture sets IFFK apart from other film festivals. "In Argentina, film institutions typically provide only about 30% of a film's budget as funding," he remarked, expressing concerns about recent funding restrictions. Moderator Meera Sahib mentioned that Argentinian cinema has been part of IFFK since 1999.
