THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has constituted a committee to ensure quality tests on drugs.
The formation of the committee was the fallout of Bilaspur tragedy, in which 13 women, who underwent sterilization, had died.
"The committee was formed since the state has no well-equipped labs to check the quality of drugs supplied in the market and hence it is depended on private labs,'' IMA president Dr Sreejith N Kumar said.

Though it was mandatory to quality check every batch of drugs supplied to hospitals and pharmacies, IMA felt that lack of facilities affected the process. If not addressed, a tragedy, similar to that of Bilaspur, can't be ruled out here, IMA said. The committee
would submit its report in two weeks.
