Indian film bags award in Moroccan festival

NEW DELHI: Malayalam film 'Maargam', directed by Rajiv Vijay Raghavan, bagged an award in the Assilah First South Film Encounter in Morocco.

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">NEW DELHI: Malayalam film ''Maargam'' (The Path), directed by Rajiv Vijay Raghavan, bagged an award in the Assilah First South Film Encounter in Morocco.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">''Maargam'' was selected for the award for the best screenplay in the film festival, organised by the Assilah Forum Foundation under the Ministry of Communication and Centre of Cinematography, Morocco from July 23 to July 29, Vijay Raghavan, who returned here, said on Wednesday.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">The award, comprising ''Golden Waves'' statutte designed by renowned sculptor Mohamed Melehi, a citation and cash price, was received by Vijay Raghavan and Anwar Ali, who had co-scripted the film with Dr S P Ramesh.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">The jury, headed by former Director of Locarno, Berlin and Venice film festivals Mortiz De Hadeln and comprising Iranian woman director Manijeh Hekmat, Azerbaijan writer- director Rustam Ibragimbekov and Nigerian theatre and film actor Makena Diop selected Aregentinian film ''Extrano'' (Strange) and Moroccan film ''No Angels Fly Over Casablanca'' for the best film prizes.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">Maargam has already participated in Film Festivals in Fribourg (Switzerland), Commonwealth (Machester), Durban (South Africa) and Zanzibar where it had won the ''Golden Dhow'' (Grand Prix).</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">The film had also won FIPRESCI Special Mention in the International Film Festival of Kerala and had swept the Kerala State Film Awards bagging eight prizes, including the one for the best film.</span></div> </div>
