IFFK to screen over 10 films on ‘plight of old age’

Thiruvananthapuram: The 27th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which is slated to be held from December 9 to 16 here, will screen more than 10 films on the theme — The Plight of Old Age.
The Japanese movie ‘Plan 75’, directed by Chie Hayakawa, delineates the plan to euthanize people older than 75 in Japan. The film has received good response when it was screened in Cannes and Toronto and will be screened under the category of ‘World Cinema’ at IFFK.

The Assamese movie ‘Anur’, directed by Monjul Baruah, which tells the story of a retired school teacher, is also included for screening.This would be the movie’s first ever screening. ‘The Storyteller’, based on Satyajith Ray’s short story ‘Golpo Bolo Tarini Khuro’, directed by Ananth Mahadev will be screened under the category of ‘Indian Cinema’.
‘Lear on the Shore’, directed by Masahiro Kobayashi, that tells the story of an 84-year-old man suffering from dementia, will be screened under the ‘Homage’ category.
‘Memoryland’ by Kim Quy Bui, ‘The Last Laugh’ by F W Murnau, ‘Utama’ by Alejandro Grisi, ‘The Bra’ by Veit Helmer and Bahman Ghobadi’s ‘The Four Walls’ are some of the other movies that discuss the plight of old age in the festival.
The Malayalam movies — ‘The Husband, the wife, and their two children’, directed by Satish and Santhosh Babusenan; and ‘Old Age Home’, directed by Jeo Baby from the anthology ‘Freedom Fight’ — that discuss the plight of old age will be screened at the festival.
