Govt submits panel to Khan

T'puram: The govt submitted a panel of candidates to governor AM Khan on Thursday so that he can pick an interim VC of Kerala University. This was after Khan reappointed Dr Mohanan Kunnummal as Kerala University of Health Sciences VC and also gave him the additional charge of Kerala University VC.
The candidates in the panel submitted by the govt on Thursday are Jayachandran (MG University), PP Pradyumnan (Calicut University), and K Sreejith (Kannur University). Khan, who is also the chancellor of state universities, earlier rejected a similar recommendation by the govt regarding the appointment of ad hoc VCs at Calicut University and Cusat.
Higher education minister R Bindu said Khan took an opportunistic stand when it came to the appointment of VCs. The chancellor, who opposed the higher education minister for seeking the reappointment of a VC, has reappointed a VC of his choice, she said. "It's highly unfortunate that the Chancellor acts in contravention of his stated stand on matters," she said, adding that he was acting against the govt efforts to improve the quality of higher education.
