opened its honorary consulate, the first European consulate in the state, here on Friday.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the consulate in the presence of German consul general Margit Hellwig-Boette. Syed Ibrahim, director of the German language and cultutal centre,

, was installed as the honorary consul for Kerala at the ceremony.

The opening of the honorary consul coupled with the 27th annual celebration of unification of East Germany and

West Germany

.

In his inaugural address, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the state government was looking forward for better cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany in infrastructure, tourism, education and every other possible field where mutual cooperation was possible. "The government in Kerala has a goal. The goal is to transform Kerala into a developed state. The government is committed to work towards this with the cooperation of all potential partners", he said.

"German companies are associating with the state in setting up water transport facility in connection with the metro rail project in Kochi. We look forward for more cooperation in terms of investment," the CM added.

Margit Hellwig Boette

said, "We are happy to install Syed Ibrahim as the honorary consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kerala. His service would be of great help to German citizens visiting Kerala".
