Gang attacks man for alerting excise about drug sale

Thiruvananthapuram: A five-member gang abducted a man at knifepoint from near the airport and attacked him using a machete and sticks for sharing information about their drug sale with the excise team a few days ago.The victim was taken to an isolated place near Nalanchira and was beaten up. The accused cut his hair using scissors and also hacked him on the foot with a machete. He was later taken to a house where also the accused continued the brutal attack. They later abandoned him in an unconscious state at Chalakuzhy Road near Pattom. Locals soon alerted Mannanthala police and he was hospitalised.Police registered a case on the complaint of Abdulla S, 22, of Medical College staff quarters at Ulloor.Police arrested three persons over the incident and the search for the remaining two was intensified. The arrested were identified as Jyothish, 22, of Maruthoor, Jithin Raj, 35, alias Kappiri Jithin of Nalanchira and Sachu, 27, of Medical College.The arrested men were remanded on charges under sections of BNS 140 (4) for kidnapping, 110 for attempting to commit culpable homicide, 118 (1) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon, 351 (3) for criminal intimidation, 296 (b) for abusing, 61 (2) for criminal conspiracy, 189 (2) for criminal conspiracy, and 191 (2) for rioting.
