Thiruvananthapuram: The ‘vanasundari chicken’ being prepared by the Kudumbashree unit from
Attappady
is attracting food lovers to the stall at the
Saras
mela here. The recipe for
vanasundari
chicken reflects the rich heritage of their food habits, and the recipe incorporates various herbs which are only found in Attappady. The dish is being prepared in such a way that the chicken is cooked along with the herbs and later roasted without using oil. The chicken is served along with dosa and chutney.
Bamboo rice payasam and ragi elayada are also available at the food stall allotted to Attappady. The national food fest, which has a total of 24 stalls, is being organized by the Kudumbashree as part of the Saras mela.
The food fest is drawing attention from a huge crowd who come to experience the traditional cuisine of various states and districts. The states, including Assam, Odisha, Rajasthan, Punjab, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim and
Karnataka are also introducing their traditional and cultural dishes to the visitors.
“As the event aims at local economic development, most of the products are being prepared from their own cultivation. We had to buy a few additional products. I believe they are getting the right opportunity to introduce their traditional and cultural taste to the visitors,” said Jofi Francis, field coordinator
Kerala.
While the Kudumbashree units from Assam showcase different dishes made of mushroom and other vegetables, the unit from Kozhikode provides the traditional non-vegetarian snacks, including kallumakkaya nirachathu, kilikoodu, erachi pathiri, chicken chatti pathiri, thurki pathiri, kunjithalena, chicken ribbon, kootile kozhiyum kunjum and chicken kabab.
Apart from the states and districts, the first stall at the cafe Kudumbashree was given to the transgender community being led by three individuals - Amritha, Anamika and Midhun. They are serving kulukki sarbath, naruneendi sarbath, fresh juice, mixed juices, mojitos, lassi and avil milk. The food fest will conclude on April 10.
