THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A four-member family, including two kids, was injured after a private bus hit an autorickshaw at Attingal on Friday noon.
According to police, the private bus 'Sharkareswari' was speeding towards Ayilam from Attingal when it collided with the autorickshaw heading in the opposite direction, near Ayilam Government Higher Secondary School, around 2.30pm.
Following the collision, Rajendran, his wife Lakshmi and sons Rejin (10) and Rejith (7) ,who were travelling in the rickshaw, were thrown out of the vehicle. Babu, the driver of the autorickshaw, also sustained serious injuries. He had been trapped inside the rickshaw.
"Primary investigation reveals that the bus was speeding and its driver was unable to negotiate a curve at the spot, resulting in the accident," said K R Biju, sub-inspector, Attingal.
All five were rushed to Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital, while the children were admitted to the SAT hospital.
The driver of the bus fled the scene immediately after the incident. Attingal police have taken the bus into custody and have registered a case for rash and negligent driving. Police have also launched a search for the absconding driver.
